Trackdilla If this name is starting to sound more and more familiar, it’s because he his production has recently been popping up on some top artist. Currently, he is working with Lil’ Zane, Chauncey Black (from Blackstreet), Yo-Yo, Chop Black, and many others. This is definitely a name that will become a household term. WHO?MAG: What’s the difference between producing hip-hop beats opposed to R&B beats? Trackdilla: Hip-hop is more energetic and really heavy compare to R&B. R&B is slower it takes more time to produce that a hip-hop joint because you need a lot a details for the singer such as bridges.
WHO?MAG: You’ve worked with some major artists. How does a new producer get their material in the right hands to take that next step? Trackdilla: I just go to them. If I meet a big artist, I just let them know what I do, and give them a CD, get phones number, & keep calling them at least twice a month so they don’t forget about you!
WHO?MAG: What is unique about the Trackdilla sound? Trackdilla: Well, my sound is unique, universal , and futuristic. I don’t really like to use the same sounds and drums over & over. I’m the Trackdilla and I’m not scared to innovate, create & I’m not down to duplicate! Plus I get my sounds from anywhere, then just mix them and mess around until I get my own sound. That why my shit is different because it’s new.
WHO?MAG: Who were some of your influences in production? Trackdilla: Timbo, Dr. Dre, Mel-man, Pete Rock, DJ Premiere, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Scott Storch (since I heard his first joints years ago), Alchemist, Teddy Riley, Djimi Finger & Jakadi (French producers), and all the producers who got they’re unique sound.
WHO?MAG: What’s next up to bat for Trackdilla? Trackdilla: MUSIC IS A DRUG I’M THE DILLA. That’s my slogan. I got a couple of songs coming out this summer w/ Chauncey Black feat. Sean Paul, Mopreme Shakur, Lil’ Zane, Yo-Yo, SULA, CHOP BLACK and many more.
